DSEK Establishes Committee to Address Complaints Against Private Schools in Kashmir
The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has taken a significant step by forming a committee to authenticate complaints against private schools in the region. This move comes just two days after the start of the new academic session, indicating a proactive approach towards addressing grievances within the education sector.
The committee, as per DSEK’s order, will comprise officials such as chief education officers, cluster heads, and zonal education officers. Their mandate includes verifying complaints lodged against private schools recognized by the School Education Department and affiliated with JKBOSE or CBSE.
One notable concern highlighted by the Committee for Fixation and Regulation of Fee of Private Schools (FFRC) is the retrospective charging of fees by private schools. The committee has warned against this practice, emphasizing that fees should only be charged for the period during which students have availed services.
Director of School Education Kashmir, Tassaduq Hussain Mir, has previously issued warnings to private schools regarding prohibited capitation charges. He underscored the department’s commitment to monitoring such practices closely and taking strict actions against violators.
The fortnightly reports and recommendations mandated by DSEK’s newly constituted committee aim to ensure accountability and transparency within private educational institutions. By closely monitoring the situation and enforcing regulations, the department seeks to uphold the standards of the J&K School Education Act-2002.
This proactive stance reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of students and parents. It also underscores the importance of effective regulatory mechanisms in maintaining the integrity of the education system and ensuring access to quality education for all.
