Doctor Booked for Extortion in Alleged Falsification of Pregnancy Reports

March 8 (WD) Srinagar Police has booked a doctor for extortion in an alleged falsification pregnancy report and illegal termination offer scam. The accused doctor has been booked under FIR number 24/2024 for extortion and attempting to commit an offense. The offenses mentioned in the FIR are cognizable, which means the police can arrest the accused without a warrant, and it is a non-bailable offense.

An expert stated that if the investigation reveals forgery of the report was done with the intention to commit cheating, Section 468 IPC can be added to the offenses. Section 468 IPC provides punishment for forgery for the purpose of cheating and carries imprisonment of up to seven years. Taking cognizance of ANN News reports on March 5, authorities have taken action to seal a clinic in Bemina, Srinagar.

The government has also established a high-level committee to investigate the matter. The committee is chaired by District Health Officer Dr. Rubina, with other members including Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) Batamaloo Dr. Sami and ZMO SR Gunj Dr. Shafqat and Dr. Parvaiz.

The victim, involved in the alleged falsification of pregnancy reports and illegal termination offer scam, provided her statement before the inquiry committee on Friday. She mentioned that a lady came to her office and offered Rs 5 lakh for the prescription, but she refused. The lady reportedly told her that being unmarried would lead to significant problems in the future.

The victim informed the committee that she had approached Srinagar Police to register a case. The family stated that they are cooperating with the committee’s investigation and will also assist in the police investigation.
