The District Magistrate of Shopian in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has issued an order reopening the Mughal Road for vehicular traffic starting from April 8, 2024. The road will be accessible for light motor vehicles, with traffic allowed in a one-way direction from Heerpora to Pir-Ki-Gali between 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

To oversee traffic management, the Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (Rural), Kashmir will establish a traffic check post at Heerpora. Additionally, the Executive Engineers from the Roads & Buildings Division and the Mechanical Engineering Department in Shopian are tasked with ensuring the availability of machinery at Padpawan for assisting stranded vehicles and clearing the road of any obstacles like shooting stones or debris.

The Tehsildar of Shopian and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Heerpora are entrusted with monitoring and supervising the implementation of these arrangements. This order aims to facilitate safe and efficient movement along the Mughal Road while mitigating potential risks associated with road conditions and traffic congestion.

The decision to reopen the Mughal Road underscores the authorities’ commitment to maintaining essential transportation routes and facilitating connectivity for residents and travelers in the region. It reflects a balance between ensuring public safety and enabling the movement of goods and people across the picturesque yet challenging terrain of Jammu & Kashmir.

The specified time frame for traffic movement indicates a strategic approach to manage the flow of vehicles and reduce the likelihood of congestion or accidents during peak hours. By restricting traffic to light motor vehicles and implementing strict supervision, the authorities seek to minimize risks and ensure a smooth commuting experience for all road users.

The coordination between different departments, including law enforcement, engineering, and administrative bodies, highlights a concerted effort to address logistical challenges and enhance the operational efficiency of the Mughal Road. This collaborative approach reflects a proactive stance in addressing infrastructure and transportation needs in the region.

As the region braces for the resumption of traffic on the Mughal Road, stakeholders are reminded to adhere to the specified guidelines and exercise caution while navigating the mountainous terrain. The reopening of this historic route signifies a step towards revitalizing regional connectivity and promoting economic activities in the picturesque landscapes of Jammu & Kashmir.
