Director Sericulture J&K Takes Stock of Ongoing Developmental Works in South Kashmir

Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director of Sericulture Jammu and Kashmir, conducted a surprise visit to various offices and mulberry nurseries/farms in South Kashmir’s Anantnag District. The purpose was to inspect ongoing developmental projects, including the Silkworm Seed Building at the Seed Station Achabal and Rampora Mulberry Nursery of Kuthar Zone, to assess preparations for the ensuing silkworm rearing season.

During his inspection of Chawki Rearing Centers in Brisnoo, rearing sheds in Binglabal, Chitargul, Anantnag, and District Offices, Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of ongoing developmental works.

He also interacted with local silkworm rearers, including National Awardee Smt. Rashida, who highlighted the benefits of various departmental schemes in providing dignified livelihoods. Silkworm Rearer Shri Noor Hassan Khan from Binglabal, Chitargul, Anantnag, shared his substantial income earned through a long association with the Sericulture Department.

Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat mentioned that Rampora Nursery propagates around 30,000 plants annually, serving as a vital leaf reserve for silkworm rearers. In Binglabal, Chitargul, Anantnag, each farmer and silkworm rearer has received 150 to 300 mulberry plants.

He urged tribal communities to leverage departmental benefits for establishing their own Mulberry Farms and Blocks under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP), providing contact information for assistance.

Emphasizing a proactive approach, Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat instructed departmental officers and employees to assist silkworm rearers and youth in adopting modern sericulture practices, aiming for bumper and double crop production in the upcoming rearing season.

He assured continued financial assistance for constructing rearing sheds and distributing disinfectants and rearing kits to safeguard crops and support silkworm rearing activities.

The surprise visit reflects the commitment of the Sericulture Development Department, Jammu and Kashmir, to efficiently implement projects and advance the sericulture sector in the region.

Accompanied by the District Sericulture Officer, Anantnag, and other field functionaries, Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat’s visit underscores the department’s dedication to the sector’s development.
