Court Rejects Bail for Cyber Fraudster Behind Fake H&ME Website
Srinagar December 01;
The Srinagar Court has decisively rejected the bail application of Sajad Hussain, a cyber fraudster implicated in a case filed by the Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone under sections of the IT Act and IPC. The charges stem from Hussain’s alleged involvement in creating a deceptive website for the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, along with uploading counterfeit appointment orders.
City Judge Fozia Paul, presiding over the case, dismissed Hussain’s plea for release. The arrest of the accused was made in connection with FIR No. 16/2023, highlighting the severity of the charges brought forth.
The complaint, lodged by the Deputy Secretary to the Government Health and Medical Education Department, detailed the discovery of a fraudulent website (https://Jk-gov.com) mimicking the official H&ME Department site. The imposter site not only replicated data from the legitimate URL://hime.jk.gov.in but also featured fabricated appointment orders referencing the Health and Medical Education Department UT of J&K.
The case, registered under FIR No. 16/2023 U/S 66 D IT Act- 468 IPC, prompted the initiation of a thorough investigation by the Cyber Police Kashmir. This incident underscores the increasing sophistication of cyber fraud, with perpetrators resorting to cloning official platforms for malicious activities. The court’s refusal of bail reflects the gravity of the alleged offenses and the commitment to addressing cybercrimes within the legal framework.
