Bus Accident: JK Admin Suspends DSP For ‘Dereliction’ of Duty

The Jammu and Kashmir administration recently suspended a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of the traffic wing for alleged dereliction of duty related to a major accident that occurred on May 30 in the Akhnoor area. The accident resulted in the tragic loss of 22 lives and left 64 people injured. In response to the incident, the administration had previously suspended six transport department officials for alleged negligence in their duties.

According to an order issued by Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, Satish Kumar, DSP, Traffic Rural, Jammu, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. The order stated that during the suspension period, the officer will remain attached to the police headquarters.

The accident took place when a bus carrying 86 devotees from Haryana’s Kurukshetra to the Shiv Khori shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district skidded off the Jammu-Poonch highway and plunged into a 150-foot gorge. It was reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a blind curve at Tungi Morh in the Chowki Chora area.

This action by the administration underscores the seriousness with which it is addressing the issue of negligence and dereliction of duty. By suspending officials responsible for such incidents, the administration is emphasizing the importance of accountability and ensuring that such tragic accidents are not repeated in the future.

The suspension of the DSP and other officials sends a strong message that accountability and adherence to duty are paramount in ensuring public safety. It also highlights the administration’s commitment to taking strict measures against those found responsible for lapses that lead to such devastating accidents.

The tragic loss of lives in this accident has prompted swift action from the authorities, and it is hoped that these measures will serve as a deterrent against any future negligence. The administration’s decisive steps to address this issue demonstrate its commitment to upholding safety and security for all citizens.
