Authorities Crack Down on Underage Driving in Kupwara
The authorities in Kupwara district have taken a stern stance against underage driving, directing the Chief Education Officer to prohibit students from using motorcycles during school hours.
This move comes after numerous complaints surfaced about rash driving, stunt biking, and reckless movement of two-wheelers by school boys, resulting in injuries, minor accidents, and even loss of lives.
The official communiqué from the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara to the CEO Kupwara emphasizes the need for proper counseling, advice, and a blanket ban on motorcycles in and around school premises.
The ADC has requested the Additional Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Kupwara, and Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kupwara to sensitize all heads of institutions, both government and private, to not allow students below 18 years to use bikes or scooters during school hours.
Furthermore, students will not be permitted to use bikes or scooters without wearing helmets and driving licenses issued by the competent authority.
The Zonal Education Officers will conduct surprise checks in and around government and private institutions to ensure that this trend is discouraged and the safety and security of all students are given top priority.
The authorities aim to maintain discipline, morality, and decency in and around schools and institutions.
This crackdown on underage driving in Kupwara is a step towards ensuring the well-being and safety of students, and it is hoped that other districts will follow suit.
