ACB Traps and Arrests Patwari While Demanding And Accepting Bribe of Rs.40,000
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Cracks Down on Corrupt Patwari
In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Patwari Halqa Chanapora, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000.
The ACB received a written complaint alleging that Bhat was demanding the bribe for issuing revenue extracts for the complainant’s residential house and land in Ghurdawara Lane, Chanapora, Srinagar.
The complainant, who had applied online for the revenue extracts 15 days prior, refused to pay the bribe and approached the ACB for legal action against the corrupt public servant.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted discreet verification, which confirmed the demand and led to the registration of Case FIR No. 17/2024 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
A trap team was constituted, and a successful trap was laid, catching Bhat red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant at Patwar Halqa Chanapora.
During the personal search of Bhat, cash amount of Rs. 35,000 was also recovered and seized, in addition to other items.
Bhat was arrested on the spot, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
This crackdown on corruption serves as a warning to public servants who engage in such unethical practices, and the ACB remains committed to eradicating corruption in Jammu and Kashmir.
