ACB arrests Patwari for demanding Bribe in

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made a significant arrest in Kathua district, Srinagar, apprehending a Patwari for soliciting a bribe of Rs 3000. According to reports, the Patwari, identified as Gulshan Singh from Halqa Machhedi, was caught red-handed by the ACB while demanding and accepting the bribe for the issuance of Virsati Intqal mutations and legal heir certificates. This arrest comes following a written complaint lodged by a resident of Machhedi, alleging extortion by the Patwari.

The complaint outlined that Singh demanded Rs 5000 from the resident for the required documentation. The resident had initially paid an advance of Rs 2000 and was further pressured to pay the remaining Rs 3000. Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the registration of Case FIR No. 02/2024 at Police Station ACB Central. The case was built under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

A trap team was promptly assembled as part of the investigation, and the Patwari was caught in the act of accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. Following the completion of legal formalities, the accused was arrested on the spot. Additionally, searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused in Ram Nagar Colony as part of the ongoing investigation.

The ACB’s actions underscore its commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring accountability within the public sector. This arrest serves as a stern warning to those engaging in corrupt practices, emphasizing the consequences of such actions. The bureau encourages citizens to report instances of corruption, reaffirming its dedication to upholding transparency and integrity in governance.
