8-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Mosque Water Tank
An 8-year-old boy named Muhammad Rizwan Wani tragically drowned in a water tank at a mosque in the Adarsh Colony area of Udhampur city. The incident occurred last night, as confirmed by officials. Rizwan was the son of Muhammad Rafi Wani and hailed from the Batote area of Ramban district.
According to reports, Rizwan left his home on his bicycle to attend prayers at Jamia Mosque in Adarsh Colony but did not return. Concerned, his parents initiated a search after sunset and eventually discovered his bicycle outside the mosque’s boundary wall. Their inquiries led them to the water tank, where they found traces suggesting Rizwan’s presence.
The Imam of the mosque mentioned that Rizwan’s father discovered his slippers inside the water tank around the time of late-night prayers (Isha). Subsequently, a search operation was intensified, and with the help of local residents, Rizwan was located inside the tank. Despite efforts to revive him, Rizwan was pronounced dead upon arrival at Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur.
Originally from Batote, Rizwan’s family had been residing in a rented accommodation in Adarsh Colony for the past few years. After the tragic incident, Rizwan’s mortal remains were taken to his native village for his final rites.
The community mourns the loss of the young boy, as the circumstances surrounding his untimely death serve as a reminder of the importance of safety measures around water bodies.
