4000 Posts Vacant in Jammu Health Department, Healthcare services affected

In Jammu division’s Health department, a significant issue has emerged as approximately 4,000 gazetted and non-gazetted posts remain vacant, severely impacting healthcare services. This revelation came to light through information obtained under the Right to Information Act, submitted by social activist MM Shuja.
Breaking down the numbers, the Directorate of Health Services Jammu disclosed that out of the 2,171 sanctioned gazetted posts, a concerning 987 positions are currently vacant. Similarly, among the 9,311 sanctioned non-gazetted posts, a substantial 2,943 positions remain unfilled.
Further examination of the vacancy distribution reveals specific gaps in different districts. For gazetted posts, there are 103 vacancies in Jammu district, 138 in Kathua, 37 in Samba, 120 in Udhampur, 74 in Ramban, 113 in Doda, 73 in Kishtwar, 127 in Poonch, 113 in Rajouri, 84 in Reasi, and five on administrative posts. In non-gazetted posts, Jammu district again leads with 621 vacancies, followed by 351 in Kathua, 183 in Samba, 280 in Udhampur, 172 in Ramban, 254 in Doda, 179 in Kishtwar, 293 in Poonch, 390 in Rajouri, and 220 in Reasi.
The impact of this widespread understaffing is keenly felt in the delivery of essential healthcare services across the region, highlighting the urgent need for attention and corrective measures in the Health department.
