Major Gold Seizure Near Indo-China Border in Ladakh
In a significant bust, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has seized 108 gold bars, weighing 108 kg, near the Indo-China border in Ladakh.
The seizure was made during a long-range patrolling operation in the Changthang sub-sector on Tuesday afternoon.
The troops arrested three individuals, identified as Tsering Chamba, Stanzin Dorgyal, and another person, all residents of Ladakh’s Nyoma area.
Initially, the smugglers claimed to be medicinal plant dealers, but a search of their belongings revealed the huge quantity of gold and other items.
The seized material, including two mobile phones, a binocular, two knives, and Chinese food items, will be handed over to the customs department.
This is the biggest haul of gold recovered by ITBP in its history, and the smugglers are being jointly interrogated by ITBP and Police.
The seizure highlights the heightened smuggling activities in the region, particularly during the summer season.
The ITBP’s swift action has prevented a significant amount of contraband from entering the country, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about the smuggling operation.
