Parents of Agniveer who Died in Kashmir Appeal for Probe into son’s Death

The parents of Agniveer soldier Nikhil Dhadwal, who died in Kashmir earlier this week, have appealed to the President and Prime Minister to investigate their son’s death and provide justice.

Nikhil Dhadwal, who was posted in the Tanda area of Kashmir’s Akhnoor, passed away on Thursday. He was part of the first batch of Agniveers and had completed two years in the Army.

Dhadwal’s father, Daler Singh, a taxi driver, received a phone call informing him that his son had sustained injuries and later died. He has urged President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an inquiry into the cause of death.

The soldier’s body was brought to his native village Lahlari in Himachal’s Hamirpur district on Friday, and the last rites were performed with full state honors. Dhadwal’s parents mentioned that the army initially informed them that he was seriously injured, but later told them that he had died.

The family is seeking justice and wants to know the circumstances surrounding Nikhil’s death. His father, Daler Singh, emphasized that an inquiry is necessary to ensure that no one is afraid of joining the Agniveer scheme.

Akhil, Nikhil’s brother, has also requested the government to investigate his death and provide justice. He questioned, “How did the death happen? It should be found out.”

On Friday, hundreds of local people attended the last rites ceremony, where Akhil lit the pyre. The family suspects that there is a mystery behind Nikhil’s death, which needs to be investigated.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed condolences to the family, saying, “May God give strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.” Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh and SP Bhagat Singh also visited the family to offer their condolences. Lt Col Varun Gandhi, who accompanied the body from Kashmir to Hamirpur, did not comment on the reason behind Nikhil’s death.
