Who is Exempt from PAN-Aadhaar Linking?
Not everyone is required to link their PAN card with their Aadhaar card. Individuals aged 80 years and above are exempt from this requirement. Additionally, as per the Income Tax Act, non-residents and individuals without Indian citizenship are also excluded from this mandate.
Consequences of Non-Linking
Failure to link the PAN card with the Aadhaar card can lead to deactivation of the PAN card, rendering it unusable for official purposes and financial transactions. Furthermore, individuals may face obstacles in filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) and conducting bank transactions. Access to various government schemes and benefits may also be restricted.
To reactivate a deactivated PAN card, individuals must visit the Income Tax Department website and complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking process, along with paying a late fee of Rs 1,000.
