Winter Break 2023 Schedule for Jammu and Kashmir Colleges

The Government has declared winter vacations for Degree Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, with a phased approach starting from December 27, 2023.
Phased Winter Vacation Plan
December 27, 2023, to February 14, 2024
The Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Alok Kumar, announced that the winter break in the Kashmir Division will span from December 27, 2023, to February 14, 2024.
Vacation Details for Different Zones
Winter Zone: December 27, 2023, to February 14, 2024
Summer Zone: January 1 to January 10, 2024
GDCs in the Kashmir region and Winter Zone of Jammu division will observe winter vacations during the specified period. However, GDCs in Jammu division under the Summer Zone will have their winter vacations from January 1 to January 10, 2024.
Online Classes Mandate
December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023 (or until winter vacations)
The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department had mandated online classes in government degree colleges in the Kashmir region starting from December 1, 2023. Dr. Ravi Shanker Sharma, Special Secretary to the government, highlighted the challenges faced by students due to the early onset of winter, making commuting and attending classes difficult.
Challenges and Solutions
Ensuring Unhindered Academic Delivery in Adverse Conditions
The disruption to regular classwork, coupled with insufficient heating arrangements, prompted the need for online classes. Dr. Sharma emphasized that, in light of the challenges posed by the harsh winter conditions and the need for uninterrupted academic delivery, online classes would continue from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023, or until the commencement of winter vacations, whichever comes earlier.
