NEET Probe: NMC Cancels Admission of 14 Students, Recommends Suspension for 26 Others

NEET-UG Scam: NMC Cancels Admissions of 14 Students, Suspends 26 for Malpractice

New Delhi, May 3: In a decisive move against malpractice in medical entrance exams, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has cancelled the admissions of 14 students and ordered the immediate suspension of 26 MBBS students found guilty of using unfair means in the NEET-UG 2024 examination, according to an official source.

The NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate) is the primary gateway for aspiring doctors to secure seats in medical colleges across India. However, this year’s exam has come under intense scrutiny following allegations of a paper leak and widespread cheating.

An ongoing multi-agency investigation, led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), uncovered evidence of academic fraud involving several candidates. Based on findings shared by the National Testing Agency (NTA), 42 students have already been debarred from appearing in NEET-UG for the next three years—2024, 2025, and 2026.

Additionally, the candidatures of 215 students have been put on hold pending further investigation, signaling more disciplinary action may follow.

“The NMC has instructed the concerned medical institutions to suspend the 26 students who were found to be involved in malpractice during the NEET-UG 2024. This action reflects the Commission’s zero-tolerance approach towards academic dishonesty,” the official said.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity in the medical admissions process, especially as the country prepares for NEET-UG 2025, scheduled for May 4.

The latest actions by the NMC are seen as a stern warning to deter future attempts to compromise the sanctity of India’s medical entrance examinations.
