Airtel, Jio may soon withdraw unlimited 5G data plan, charge up to 10% more: Report
New Delhi, Jan 13 (WD):
Airtel and Jio are reportedly considering discontinuing their unlimited 5G data plans for premium customers, planning to charge approximately 5-10% more for 5G services compared to 4G starting in the second half of 2024. This strategic move aims to enhance monetization and boost revenue growth.
The telecom operators are also expected to raise mobile tariffs by at least 20% in the September quarter of 2024 to improve the return on investment for 5G infrastructure and customer acquisition costs.
In related news, Bharti Airtel, in collaboration with Ericsson, has successfully tested Ericsson’s pre-commercial Reduced Capability (RedCap) software on the Airtel 5G network, marking a significant step in implementing new 5G use cases.
