Private Schools in Kashmir making shift to CBSE Pattern

Private schools in Kashmir are making a significant shift by transitioning to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). They’ve submitted files for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the School Education Department, a crucial step for CBSE affiliation. This move coincides with the government’s decision to implement a common curriculum from the 2024-25 academic session.

While some schools have initiated the application process months ago, others are currently in the process of acquiring the NOC. The Ministry of Education reached out in June 2023 for the affiliation timeline, but communication has been pending since then.

Private school owners cite interference from the administrative department and Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) as a motivation for seeking CBSE affiliation. The CBSE schools offer curriculum freedom without interference up to the CEO level.

This shift also addresses challenges with BOSE registration renewal, with approximately 200 schools facing issues related to land and incomplete formalities. The government has directed J&K Board-affiliated private schools to prescribe BOSE-published textbooks for all classes, with warnings of disciplinary action and registration cancellation for any deviations.
