Understanding Unemployment:
Joblessness, or unemployment rate, is the percentage of people without jobs among those in the labor force.

To keep track of labor force data more regularly, the NSSO introduced the PLFS in April 2017. The reference period for the current report is from July 2022 to June 2023. This is the sixth annual report based on PLFS data.

Earlier reports covered the periods from July 2017-June 2018 to July 2021-June 2022. The recent report covers data collected during July 2022-June 2023.

Fieldwork Challenges:
The fieldwork for collecting information for July 2022-June 2023 was completed on time for most samples. However, there were challenges in Manipur due to disturbances and the unavailability of internet services. This affected 51 first-visit and 68 revisit FSUs in the last quarter of April-June 2023, treated as casualties in the report.
