Mughal Road closed amid fresh snowfall

Poonch, Dec 16, 2023 (WD): The Mughal Road, a crucial connection between Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district and the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, has been temporarily closed due to recent snowfall on Saturday, according to officials.

Authorities highlighted significant snow accumulation, particularly around ‘Pir Ki Gali,’ leading to the closure of this important route. Hamid Ali Bandey, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Surankote, confirmed the road closure, emphasizing the impact of adverse weather conditions on this essential transportation artery.

This closure follows a recurring pattern observed earlier this year when the Mughal Road, often seen as an alternative to the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, experienced intermittent closures due to snowfall, specifically in the ‘Pir Ki Gali’ area and its surroundings. The challenges posed by winter weather continue to affect the accessibility of this crucial road link.
