Alleged Geyser Scam in Sopore Prompts Authorities to Investigate

In a recent development in north Kashmir’s Sopore, authorities have temporarily shuttered a local shop amid allegations of fraud involving the sale of geysers. Customers claim that the shopkeeper sold them “old and repaired” geysers, leading to protests outside the establishment.

The accusations against the shop owner are now under thorough investigation, confirmed Zeeshan Khan, the In-Charge Tehsildar. Khan emphasized the need for a comprehensive verification process to prevent such frauds, particularly those involving discounted sales that may deceive unsuspecting customers.

A senior police officer at the protest site assured the public that a detailed examination would take place, and appropriate legal action would be pursued if the outlet owner is found guilty. Customers expressed their dissatisfaction, citing instances of purchasing second-hand products during what was promoted as a mega sale.

Despite the allegations, the shop owner dismissed them as baseless and expressed willingness to cooperate with the authorities during the investigation. He defended the transactions as legitimate business sales, emphasizing that a 5-year warranty was guaranteed for the purchased geysers. The shop owner also mentioned plans to refund those who claimed to have received old and repaired products.

Amidst the controversy, a viral video on social media showcased a commercial outlet in Sopore outskirts, specifically Hygam, announcing a mega sale on geysers with over a 50% discount. The video also highlighted a special sale targeting marginalized sections of society and individuals with BPL ration cards.
