All eyes on SC as verdict on Article 370 is scheduled for today
LIVE Updates on Article 370 Verdict: Supreme Court Set to Rule Four Years After Abrogation
On Monday, December 11, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and a five-judge Constitution bench, will deliver its judgment on pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, four years after its implementation.
In anticipation of potential tensions, preparations are underway across Jammu and Kashmir. Political leaders nationwide are actively expressing their opinions, with the opposition advocating for the reinstatement of Article 370, which granted special status to the region.
Various petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which bifurcated the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh – were referred to a Constitution bench in 2019.
Over 16 days, the bench, consisting of CJI Chandrachud and Justices S K Kaul, Sanjeev Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant, heard arguments from petitioners and the Centre. The apex court, having reserved its verdict on September 5, is now set to provide its ruling on December 11.
