J&K High Court Restores 400-Crore Land to Srinagar Temple

Historic Judgement: J&K High Court Restores 400-Crore Land to Srinagar Temple

In a landmark decision, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has nullified suspicious transfer agreements and restored 160 kanals of land worth Rs 400 crore to the Raghu Nath Ji temple in Srinagar.

The court has also ordered the government takeover of 140 kanals of temple land unlawfully occupied by senior advocate Mian Qayoom and his family members.

Qayoom, recently arrested in connection with Advocate Babar Qadri’s murder, had built houses, a mosque, and flat buildings on the temple land.

The illegal occupation was facilitated by corrupt officials and an impostor, Major Arjun Singh, who posed as Mahanat Arjun Dass.

The court has directed the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, to take over the management of the temple and its properties immediately.

The judgment also states that no further mutations can be made in the name of any Mahant or his disciple, and the properties will remain in the temple’s name under government management.

The dispute over the land had been ongoing for decades, with multiple court cases and compromises reached, but the High Court’s decision has finally brought clarity and justice to the matter.

The restoration of the land to the temple is a significant victory for the devotees and the community, and a step towards preserving the cultural and religious heritage of the region.
