Silver for ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj; Pakistan’s Nadeem smashes Olympic record for gold
Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver in Men’s Javelin Throw at Olympics
Defending champion Neeraj Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two successive Olympic medals, securing silver in men’s javelin throw.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem stole the show, setting a new Olympic record with a stunning 92.97m throw in his second attempt, claiming his country’s maiden individual gold medal.
Chopra, under pressure, managed just one legitimate throw, a silver-winning 89.45m in the second round, which was the season’s best effort from the Indian athlete.
Nadeem’s remarkable throw destroyed the competition, setting the bar too high for the rest of the field, including Chopra, who couldn’t match the Pakistani athlete’s incredible performance.
Chopra’s achievement is significant, as he became only the third Indian and the first in track and field to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals.
The Olympic record set by Nadeem surpassed the previous record of 90.57m held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway since the 2008 Beijing Games.
Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured the bronze medal with an effort of 88.54m, while Czech Republic’s Yakub Vadlejch finished fourth with 88.50m.
Nadeem’s historic throw marked a remarkable moment in the competition, and his performance will be remembered as one of the highlights of the Olympics.
