Election Commission to Meet Political Parties in J-K on

The Election Commission of India is set to meet with political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to gather feedback on conducting Assembly polls in the Union Territory.

The meeting is part of the Election Commission’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir from August 8-10 to review preparedness for the Assembly polls.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu, will lead the delegation.

The Election Commission has invited various political parties for a meeting, assigning them specific time slots.

The meeting aims to get feedback from political parties on conducting Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, which is crucial for the democratic process in the Union Territory.

The Election Commission will also review the situation with the chief electoral officer, central forces coordinator, election officers, police superintendents, chief secretary, and director general of police.

Additionally, the commission will visit Jammu on August 10 for a review meeting with enforcement agencies and hold a press conference to brief the media on the review process.

The Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories in 2019, making this electoral exercise a significant milestone in the region’s political landscape.
