Possibility of Rain and Thundershowers in J&K Till June 30: Meteorological Department

The Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of rain and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir until June 30. This prediction includes light to moderate rain in many places of the Jammu Division, particularly during late night and early morning hours. The Kashmir Division is also expected to experience light rain at a few locations.

A meteorological department official informed GNS that from July 1 to July 5, there is a likelihood of a gradual increase in rainfall intensity, starting from July 2. This period may see intermittent light to moderate rainfall across many areas, with the possibility of heavy showers at a few places for brief periods. Additionally, some locations may experience moderate thunderstorms and lightning.

The official warned of potential landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas due to the expected weather conditions. This is a significant concern for regions prone to such natural occurrences, necessitating caution and preparedness among residents and travelers.

In terms of temperature, Srinagar recorded a low of 19.6°C, which is 2.5°C above the normal temperature for this time of year. Qazigund, known as the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 15.4°C, slightly below the normal temperature.

Pahalgam, a popular resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 11.4°C, which is slightly above the normal temperature. Similarly, Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of 17.8°C, which is 2.6°C below the normal for this period.

Kupwara town maintained a consistent low of 15.8°C, which is above normal by 0.5°C. In contrast, the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 14.2°C, which is below the normal temperature by 0.6°C.

In the Jammu Division, Jammu city recorded a low of 27.7°C, 1.4°C above the normal temperature. Other places like Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 19.8°C, 19.5°C, and 17.4°C, respectively. The varying temperatures across the region reflect the diverse climatic conditions expected in the coming days.
