Weather Update, Heavy Rains With Light Snowfall Expected in Valley

Rains swept across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, signaling the arrival of precipitation in the region. The meteorological department has issued forecasts predicting more rain in the coming days, suggesting a continuation of the wet weather pattern. According to reports, various areas experienced different levels of rainfall over a 24-hour period, with some regions receiving heavier showers than others.

The forecast indicates generally cloudy conditions across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with intermittent light to moderate rain expected. Additionally, higher elevations may experience light snowfall. Thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds are also predicted in some areas, adding to the weather dynamics and potential hazards.

Looking ahead, the meteorological department anticipates partly to generally cloudy weather on May 13, with light rain and thunder expected in a few places. From May 14 to 18, generally dry weather is forecasted for the region, providing a temporary respite from the rainy conditions. However, on May 19, generally cloudy weather is expected to return, accompanied by light rain and thunder in some areas towards the afternoon.

Temperature-wise, various towns and cities in Jammu and Kashmir recorded fluctuations in their minimum temperatures. Srinagar saw a low of 12.6°C, slightly above the normal average for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund, Pahalgam, and Kokernag recorded temperatures above normal, while Gulmarg experienced temperatures slightly below average.

In summary, the recent rainfall has brought both relief and challenges to the region. While it provides much-needed moisture for agriculture and replenishes water sources, it also raises concerns about potential hazards such as flooding and landslides. The upcoming weather forecast suggests a mix of cloudy and dry conditions, highlighting the unpredictable nature of weather patterns in Jammu and Kashmir. As always, residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during adverse weather conditions.
