Over 1.13 Lakh Kashmiri Migrants Eligible To Vote For 3 LS Seats in Kashmir
Over 1.13 lakh Kashmiri migrants are eligible to cast their votes for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections across three seats in the Valley. The Jammu and Kashmir administration plans to conduct special awareness camps in Jammu and Udhampur districts from April 3 to 14 to ensure their active participation in the electoral process.
According to Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Arvind Karwani, the migrant voters will have the opportunity to vote in three phases across Anantnag, Srinagar, and Baramulla constituencies. A total of 26 polling stations have been established for the migrants, with the majority situated in Jammu, along with four in Delhi and one in Udhampur.
Karwani outlined two options for migrant voters to cast their ballots: by filling up an M-form for special polling stations or through postal ballots using Form-12C. He emphasized the importance of large voter turnout and encouraged migrants to exercise their democratic right.
Facilities have been arranged for migrants in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai to access the M-form through the state Election Commission’s portal. Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) have been designated in Delhi, Jammu, and Udhampur to facilitate the voting process.
Special awareness camps are being organized starting April 3 to ensure that migrant electors are well-informed about the voting procedures. These camps will be held in migrant camps and areas with significant Kashmiri migrant populations in Jammu, with plans to extend similar efforts in Delhi. The administration aims to maximize awareness and participation among Kashmiri migrants for a robust democratic process.
