Govt Decision on Winter vacation in j&k.Check Report

Government Undecided on Extension of Winter Vacations Amid Inclement Weather Predictions

Srinagar, Feb 28 (WD): Amid speculations of extending winter vacation in Kashmir due to an anticipated wet weather spell, the School Education Department stated that no decision had been made on the matter yet.

Administrative Secretary of the School Education Department, Piyush Singla, dismissed rumors of an extension, emphasizing that no decision had been taken as of yet.

“As of now, we have not made any decision, but we will inform the students accordingly once a decision is made,” Singla clarified.

Meteorological officials in Srinagar had forecasted cloudy weather from February 28-29, with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places. Additionally, the department anticipated light to moderate rain accompanied by snowfall in some areas from March 2 to March 3.

Earlier, the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir, had stated that they were closely monitoring the weather conditions to make an informed decision about extending vacations.

“We are assessing the weather conditions, and the decision regarding vacation extension will depend on the prevailing weather conditions,” Mir explained.

He further added, “I will consult with the administrative secretary and make a decision accordingly.”

In November 2023, the then Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Alok Kumar, had informed KNO that the department faced challenges in providing heating arrangements to all government school students due to the large number of schools and limited facilities available.

“We lack the necessary facilities to accommodate extended winter vacations,” Kumar had stated.—(WD)
