Big Update regarding Extension of Winter Vacations in j&k:Report

Srinagar, Feb 26 (wD): Amid speculation surrounding the extension of winter vacations in Kashmir due to an anticipated wet weather spell, the School Education Department stated that no decision had been made on the matter yet.

Administrative Secretary of the School Education Department, Piyush Singla, clarified to the news agency—Watan Daily (WD) that the talks of extending winter vacation were merely rumors.

“We have not made any decision yet, but we will notify the students accordingly whenever a decision is made,” Singla affirmed.

The Srinagar meteorological officials had earlier forecasted cloudy weather from February 28-29, with a possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places. Additionally, light to moderate rain, along with snowfall in certain areas, was expected from March 2 to March 3.

Earlier, the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir, had mentioned that they were closely monitoring the weather conditions. He stated that the decision to extend vacations would depend on the evolving weather situation.

“I will discuss with the administrative secretary and make a decision accordingly,” Mir emphasized.

In November 2023, the then Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Alok Kumar, had informed (WD) that the department lacked the capacity to provide heating arrangements to all government school students.

“We have a large number of schools, and we don’t have sufficient facilities to accommodate extended winter vacations,” Kumar had explained.—(WD)
